Speaker Resource Meetings
FAA offers Speaker Resources Network Sessions and Social events for individuals on the autism spectrum, parents, professionals, and caregivers. It is a chance to connect with individuals with autism, parents and families with experiences similar to yours. You can share your personal story, or simply listen and learn. Meetings include expert speakers on recent cutting edge topics that impact Teens and Adults on the autism spectrum. The FAA speaker sessions provide an open opportunity for collaboration and to strengthen the family and professional network. In addition, to the Speaker Resource Network meetings each year FAA offers Social Events for the entire family as our well known May Family Picnic recognizing Mothers and our June event recognizing Fathers. Our Event Calendar is updated monthly with upcoming events. Stay tune and check back for the most updated FAA Event Calendar.
A series of paralleling workshops are presented by seasoned professionals, hand-picked for their ability to capture and keep the interest of our spectrum teens (13 – 17 years) on topics that quietly concern you both, aren’t easy to talk about – and, sometimes better said by someone else. The topic of each workshop is covered with parents one week in advance of the series to give you the tools to you need to motivate your child to (first) attend and (then) enjoy with you and (ultimately) put into practice what is learned – all without your prodding.
Young Adults Workshop
Our young adults (18+ years) are convinced they no longer need us. And, there is no convincing them that they do. These are the days when you are both navigating a journey into the unknown. The more you ALL know, the better. The Young Adult Workshops are held in separate rooms at the same location. The same information is disseminated in two different ways: The Young Adult Presenter is a seasoned professional, handpicked for their ability to capture and keep the attention of young adults on topics that help them make educated decisions for their future. The Parent Presenter is an experienced parent (or panel of parents) who work collaboratively with the Young Adult Presenter to provide the same information, sharing too, their success stories and barricades hurdled to get there.
